With so many ways to save money this Black Friday, it’s easy to get drawn into the short-term purchasing hype. But let’s not forget that some switches may seem to have a high upfront cost, but can save you money for years. And the good news is that most people can save hundreds, and sometimes thousands of pounds a year, which can quickly pay off the initial investment and then you can focus on just saving money, as well as being more comfortable at home and on the road.
So if you’re thinking about your next car or home upgrade, look carefully at electric cars, solar panels and heating options.
So what can these savings look like? They can vary wildly, since everyone’s fuel and energy use is quite different. But here are some estimates for annual savings.
Firstly, heating:
£50-£100 – turn down your boiler flow temperature
£50-£200 – install smart heating controls
£100-£400 – switch from a gas or oil burner to an air source heat pump
And these are national averages. We’re pleased to work with SAP employees to analyse your specific situation and let you know how much you can save. And we’ve worked out that SAP UK employees can save more than this average – with the heat pump swap saving nearly £600 across the workforce.
Next up, solar panels. The average UK home is expected to save, per annum:
£400-700 – by installing a solar PV system
We’ve reviewed our figures, and this tends to be around £900 per annum for SAP UK employees.
And finally, the electric car. While the average home in the UK is quoted as likely to save around £500 in fuel costs by switching to an electric car, SAP UK folk going electric are saving around £1500 in fuel costs per year.
And for some Black Friday icing on the cake, you can sleep sound knowing that for more £ savings, the carbon savings stack up too, which is much needed as we look towards the next UN COP29 meeting.
